LOCATION: Housesitting in Cingoli, Italy
WEATHER: Mild and sunny. High 62
We did a little garden work this morning. Although it is very spring-like now, there was a freak snowstorm here last week. It nipped a lot of the plants. I worked on some of the potted plants to try to revive them…
The old barn on the property has lots of character, and is beautiful today with the small wildflowers growing in the grass.
The walls in the house are all about a foot wide, creating huge window ledges. This is the kitchen window, through which the cats jump in and out of the apartment.
Wanting to take advantage of the sunny weather (as rain is forecasted next week), we drove to the Adriatic Sea, about 30 miles from here. Thank goodness for the GPS/Garmin! We never would have found it without it. “Go 1 km and take a right; then at the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit, then immediately left” etc etc. We drove through one of the ancient hill towns, then to the dramatic coast.
We found a restaurant overlooking the water and shared a plate of skewered, grilled seafood pieces (octopus, shrimp, squid) with a mixed salad. Really tasty.
DINNER: I used leftover chicken that the homeowner had given us from our first night’s dinner together, sautéing it up with red bell pepper, mushrooms and tomatoes. I topped it with slivers of local parmagianno. Side was a salad drizzled with balsamic vinegar and olive oil that the homeowners had pressed from their own olives. I could get used to this!!!
