LOCATION: In our tiny house in Mission, Texas
WEATHER: Overcast, and chilly. High 70
CLASSES: 2 Line-dancing and 1 water aerobics
When I took my morning walk, I saw Border Patrol round up a big group of undocumented people. Recently, there have been an unusually large number of people crossing. These photos were taken near our house.
It is so sad to see young children, women, and teens. Their lives must be so awful for them to be so desparate. I don’t know what the solution is.
Then, after the walk….on to line-dancing. The routines are starting to come back to me.
The weather forecast was to be 70 by noon, so my friend and I planned to swim. The temp started dropping right before our class, so it was only 64 when we did our water aerobics class. It was brutal, especially as there was no sun. Afterwards, we sat in the hot tub to warm up.
When we were in South Africa last year housesitting, we were lucky to be staying at a house with passion fruit vines. They were in season while we were there, and we ate 4-5 per day, inventing different ways to use them. So, when we were at Sprouts the other day (a shop like a small Whole Foods), George bought one. $2 each! He dug out the seeds this afternoon to plant them, hopefully resulting in a nice vine on our backyard fence. For the fruit, he made us some nice gin and tonics with passion fruit. By late afternoon, the sun had come out and it was quite nice, so we enjoyed our drinks outside. A friend here in Retama Village is growing them, too, and took this lovely photo.
DINNER: To take advantage of my basil plant and some good tomatoes, I made a caprese salad. The main course was flatbread made with naan. The base was cream cheese and some pasta sauce. Toppings were grilled chicken, poblano peppers, green onions, and mozarella.
