DISTANCE DRIVEN: 3 hours

On our last morning at Tawas Point, we took a long walk out beyond the lighthouse to the point. It was a nice hike with pretty views of the bay.
We drove north for about an hour along Lake Huron. It is mostly undeveloped with cute, older beach cottages dotting the shore.
We stopped in Alpena to meet up with some friends who live in Retama Village in the winter. We had lunch and a brewski together at their local brewpub.
The brewery has a huge smoker. We shared a pulled pork sandwich, freshly home-smoked.
From there, we drove another hour to Gaylord, a town with a German “Alpine Village” look. We went out to the country to the farm where a friend’s sister lives. They have a huge farm and greenhouse, and had invited us to stay with them overnight.
We had a very nice dinner together out on their deck.
DINNER: I made some salads – 3-bean, potato, and chickpea. Sharon, our host, made some yummy bread rolls with veggies and lettuce from their garden.
We had a great evening, chatting, and then a peaceful overnight cozy in Joy.
